“That is so high in fat, I’m not eating that!!” I have heard this many times and it usually comes from people who focus on the FAT word-yet they will have no problem eating a bag of so called “Healthy” crisps. Come on people Avocados grow naturally and crisps are made in factories and while some may be low in fat they contain sugars and man made additives.
Do not be afraid of Fat- just make sure its the good kind: Monounsaturated fat. Foods like avocados that contain monounsaturated fat lessen your LDL cholesterol, which is harmful to your body.
Fibre content: Two-thirds of a cup of avocado has 2.11 g of soluble fibre and 2.7 g of insoluble fibre. Soluble fibre dissolves in water and forms a gel in the digestive tract while insoluble fibre adds bulk to stool and promotes movement of materials through the digestive tract.
Healthy Brain: Avocados combine brain healthy omega-3 fatty acids with natural vitamin E, which has been clinically proven to prevent Alzheimer’s disease from progressing and even reversing it in its earliest stages.
Anti-aging:The master antioxidant glutathione supports the liver and the nervous system. Responsible for replenishing and recycling other antioxidants in the body. It is vital for a strong immune system, and avocado is one of the few foods that contain a considerable amount of glutathione.Blood Pressure: Avocados are also a great source of potassium, which helps in controlling blood pressure levels.
Anti-Inflammatory properties-Phytonutrient compound found in avocados, such as polyphenols and flavonoids have been found to have anti-inflammatory properties, thereby reducing the risk of inflammatory and degenerative disorders.
These are only some of the benefits of this wonderful superfood (who said fat was bad for you!!!) I will admit that Avocados are an acquired taste, but start off making homemade guacamole, adding to salads and then all you will need is a bowl, olive oil, salt and pepper!
Here is an easy snack I made earlier:
1 Ripe Avocado-Sliced
Splash of Extra Virgin Olive Oil
Handful of Crushed Pistachios
Sea Salt (Himalayan if possible)
Add all ingredients to a bowl & enjoy 🙂 🙂
